Yumi Ito is not only a distinguished musician, but also a composer and singer in her own right, moving weightlessly and at the same time competently between jazz, art-pop, electronica, free improvisation and neo-classical music, generating a sound that comes across as fresh and often surprising. She also teaches jazz voice as a major at the ZHdK.

The podcast was recorded in March 2022 right after a rehearsal with the Zurich Jazz Orchestra in the corridor of the ZHdK. So forgive us for the background noise. We talk to Yumi Ito about her musical work, her teaching activities, the role of women in jazz and what jazz actually means in the year 2022.
